Children’s Summer Reading Program
The Atheneum Children’s Summer Reading Program runs from mid-June through mid-August. Readers in grades K – 6 will receive a book bag, reading record, and other small prizes, to begin their summer reading journey. Preschoolers will receive an activity sheet in place of the reading record.
Summer Readers keep track of the hours they have read and receive a prize if they have read a total of 20 hours and completed their reading record. Preschoolers complete a sheet of activities all designed to foster the six essential preliteracy skills. In addition there will be programs for children and families all through the summer that incorporate the current year’s theme. Please check the calendar for details.
Teen Summer Reading Program
Teen summer readers in Grades 6 through 12 pick up a reading record and materials at either the YA Desk in the library’s Great Hall or at the Weezie Desk. Teens have a separate slogan and theme along with coordinating materials. Teens are also eligible for a prize once they have completed 20 hours of reading.
Sign up for the Children’s or Teen’s summer reading program at the Weezie Desk any time between mid June and August 1.
