Why Give?

The Nantucket Atheneum relies
on public and private funding.

Nantucket Atheneum

User support is vital to the Atheneum. Open year round, the Nantucket Atheneum has a unique private/public partnership.

Town and state governments provides 33 percent of the yearly $1.75 million operating budget, the remaining must come from private support—through individual annual fund gifts, foundations support, bequests and special events. Please ensure that Nantucket’s public library will continue its vital services to the community through your financial contribution today.

Enduring Vision of Excellence
With more than 130,000 people coming annually through our front doors, the Atheneum offers a diverse collection of materials in printed and digital form. With a library card, patrons borrow books and media from our collection of 56,000 items or from the 34 area libraries connected by the CLAMS network. Patrons have free access to the library’s 14 computer terminals to search for information or to connect to people around the world.

“If ever there was a watch tower, a lookout point, a window on the world, here it is.

Here it is out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at the corner of Federal and India Streets.”

- David McCullough
