Weezie Library For Children

Located on the east end of the first floor, the Weezie Library for Children was built in 1996 with a generous grant from the Weezie Foundation, named in memory of a very special girl—Louise Frances Walker. Original artwork from several picture books about Nantucket grace the walls of this light-filled addition to the Atheneum. Furniture includes hand-painted tables and chairs, and one of Nantucket artist Clara Urbahn’s famous animal chairs—Otto the elephant.

The collection encompasses many reading levels and formats: board, picture, beginning reader, chapter, and nonfiction books; music CDs, audio books, videocassettes and DVDs. The library also houses small magazine, reference, foreign language and Nantucket collections.

The Weezie Library also offers a full range of Programs & Events for children
