Janny Scott is the author of A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mother. She is a journalist and author who worked for 14 years as a reporter for The New York Times. During the 2008 presidential campaign, she wrote a series of biographical articles on then Senator Barack Obama, one of which became the basis of her book. In addition, Scott was a member of the Times teams that won Pulitzer Prizes in 2000 and 2001.
Before joining The New York Times, Scott was a reporter for The Los Angeles Times, The Record of Hackensack and The Real Paper. Born in Bala Cynwyd, PA., Scott attended high school at a British boarding school in Kent, England and received a B.A. degree from Harvard University in 1978.
