The Nantucket Atheneum offers a lively, year round schedule of events many of which are free. Most events are held in the library’s historic Great Hall, located on the second floor, or in the Lower Gallery, a classroom located in the basement.
Present day orators share the stage with the Atheneum’s many historic speakers of the past, which include luminaries like Ralph Waldo Emerson and Frederick Douglass.
In addition, the library schedules musical and theatrical performances, films and literary events each month.
The Atheneum collaborates with many island organizations and individuals as well as arranging with off-island presenters to come here. Our mission is to offer a wide spectrum of events that cover many interests so that we offer something for everyone.
