Justin Peck, aÂ Soloist at New York City Ballet, was born in Encinitas, California where he began studying ballet at California Ballet for two years. He continued at the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official School of New York City Ballet becoming an apprentice of the Company in 2006 a member of the Corps de Ballet in the spring of 2007 and a Soloist in 2013.
Since joining NYCB, Mr. Peck has been featured in works by George Balanchine including George Balanchine’s The Nutcrackerâ„˘, Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet, Concerto Barocco, The Firebird, Libeslieder Walzer, A Midsummer Nightâ€™s Dream, La Sonnambula, The Four Temperaments and Tschaikovsky Suite No 3; Peter Martinsâ€™ The Sleeping Beauty, Fearful Symmetries and The Waltz Project; Angelin Preljocajâ€™s La Stravaganza and Jerome Robbinsâ€™ The Concert, Fancy Free, West Side Story and The Four Seasons; Benjamin Millepiedâ€™s Plainspoken and Why am I not Where you Are.
Mr. Peckâ€™s debut as a choreographer was in 2009 when he was invited to participate in the 10th anniversary of the New York Choreographic Workshop with Tales of a Chinese Zodia.Â Since then he has created works for New York City Ballet, School of American Ballet, Miami City Ballet, the Nantucket Atheneum Dance Festival, and Skidmore College among others.
In 2011 he was nominated for a Bessie Award in the Outstanding Emerging Choreographer category.Â In 2011, he became the first Choreographer-in-Residency of the New York Choreographic Institute for the 2011/12 season.Â In 2013 he was nominated for the Benois De La Danse Award for new choreography.
