Circulation Policies
Library Cards
An Atheneum card is necessary to check out any library materials and to
use our "public access" computers. This card may be used at any
of the 36 CLAMS member libraries.

Proper identification
is needed to obtain a library card. A driver’s license, passport or
International student I.D. will be accepted.
All Nantucket year-round residents,
property owners and Massachusetts library card holders are entitled
to a free Atheneum card. All other visitors may obtain a card for $15.00 with proper I.D. This card
is valid for one year from the date of issue.
Children under 13
must have their application signed by a parent or guardian.
Replacement charge
for a lost card is $1.
Fines
Atheneum fines are .10
per day on all materials except videos which are $1.00
per day.
Loan Periods
Atheneum books are loaned for two weeks.
Atheneum videos are loaned for one week.
Maximum Atheneum fine is $5.00
Renewals
Items may be renewed for the appropriate amount of time provided there
are no outstanding requests for the item.
Reserves
Items can be reserved at the library, by phone or on-line. An Atheneum
card and a PIN number are necessary to place reserves.
Note: Materials obtained from
other libraries in the CLAMS systems are subject to different fines, loan
periods, and renewal rules.
